A Day at Denver's Union Station

You’ve arrived in Denver: What’s next? Or maybe you live here and are looking for a novel way to spend the afternoon… to be quite honest it could turn into the whole day. Denver’s Union Station has a plethora of attractions to give you an excuse to duck out of Downtown Denver’s hot summer sun and spend some time relishing in the beautiful Great Hall of the iconic train station.

Bloom has taken the time to curate the perfect ways to explore the recently redone Amtrak station, though to be honest, everything in Union Station is worth the time. Bloom is proud to say we have been residents of Denver’s Union Station since it was redone and reopened in 2014 and we have grown to adore our fellow vendors inside the station.

To begin our day, we stepped into Pigtrain Coffee which is laced with dark espresso roasts and delectable pastries. Everyone needs a morning jolt and Pigtrain coffee offers a variety of specialty drinks that are sure to please. Treat yourself to their signature latte or try one of their specialty drinks like a vanilla lavender latte, yum! Their menu even includes Italian sodas for those laying off caffeine. The pastry case is always full and we’ve been eyeing those giant chocolate dipped, coconut macaroons. Want to add a little spunk to your cup of joe? Pigtrain Coffee has you covered with their spin on a classic Irish coffee or a hot toddy.

No day at Union Station is complete without a stop in Bloom’s lovely, lifestyle boutique for some downtown shopping. Inside we have a selection of fine jewelry from around the world, exquisite candles by Cire Trudon and more, as well as lively stationary you’re sure to love.

Waltz around the shop and take in the sumptuous smell while you pick something up to remember your travels or add some spice to your home decor. Like what you smell? Bloom by Anuschka recently launched our very own brand of candles with scents inspired by Anuschka’s travels. While you’re in the lifestyle boutique, give them some love and enjoy the fragrances.

Next we hopped over to Mercantile Dining and Provision to browse through their extensive collection of fine cheeses and market style horderves. Mercantile is an especially versatile eatery that ranges from market-style lunch to a truly beautiful Downtown Denver fine dining experience in the evenings. Mercantile highlights their comprehensive collection of wines with a gorgeous and quaint wine room that can be reserved for small gatherings.

Mercantile has a little bit of everything and whether you plan to stop in and have a quick taste of their exceptional cheeses made at their own farm, Fruition Farms, or indulge yourself in a full scale meal complete with delectable cocktails and an entree from their newly reinvented menu, this is definitely not a place to miss!

We suggest then venturing upstairs to the Cooper Lounge located in the mezzanine of the Great Hall to conclude your fine dining experience. This upscale bar is lavish on all accounts and does not shy away with its 20th century influenced design. The view of the Great Hall is spectacular and you can enjoy it all the while sipping on a simply glamorous and high-end cocktail.

Maybe you desire a drink that’s a bit more on the casual side? If so, Denver’s Union Station caters to your request! Terminal Bar, located centrally inside the Great Hall, offers more tame but all the same, tempting libations. Pick a drink and take a gander at the menu that features an upscale take on bar food. Sit in the comfy lounge area or try your hand at a game of shuffleboard while you savor your drink. Terminal Bar also features its Plaza Beer Garden located outside the front of the station. Order a cold brew in front of the station at one of the Oktoberfest style picnic tables and take in the view of Downtown Denver.

Don’t leave Union Station without wrapping up your downtown shopping at our stunning kiosk in the center of the Great Hall! Work with a floral designer to create a gorgeous arrangement or pick up an elegant bouquet to take home. You might even want to snap a pic of the kiosk for an aesthetically pleasing photo to upload to your Instagram and document your busy day at Union Station.
