Tatiana Cullen
Tatiana Cullen immigrated to Denver in 2004 and holds a Bachelor's degree in Sculpture from Metropolitan State University and a Master's in Architecture from the University of Colorado, Denver. Professionally trained as an Architect, Tatiana recently made the scary yet exhilarating decision to change career paths and pursue her true passion as a full-time artist. Tatiana is infatuated with birds and the feelings of freedom they represent and incorporates them into all of her paintings. She also loves incorporating vibrant color and fiber into all of her work, sewing pieces of fur directly into her canvases as representations of life experiences. Employing fur scraps that were intended to be discarded also offers a reuse and sustainability component to her paintings that is symbolic of her own personal renewal and reinvention. The white paint over the raw canvas and fur illustrates how we as humans attempt to suppress
negative situations and circumstances present in our own lives, to create illusions of perfection without complete suppression. The big color splashes featured on every painting signify future opportunities that are always present within us if we take the uncertain yet necessary steps to reveal our true identities. “I hope viewers will be inspired by the realistic birds and the cut red yarn fastened to their foot signifying freedom… Overcoming fear and limiting beliefs present in my own life. My intention is to inspire others to be courageous and follow their dreams… To try something they have wanted, or to end something that is weighing them down. The time to take that first small step in now.’’
